Travel Highlights
→ Zipaquirá and the Salt Cathedral – Cycling between history and underground marvels
Begin your adventure pedaling from Bogotá’s heights to Zipaquirá, home to the iconic Salt Cathedral, an underground architectural jewel carved inside an old mine. This stretch mixes urban sections with medium-difficulty mountain roads and is ideal for acclimatizing while enjoying panoramic views of the Cundiboyacense plateau.
→ Raquira – The artisans’ route by bike
After a bus descent to Suesca, you’ll get back on the bike towards Raquira, Colombia’s craft capital. Ride rural paths that wind among green hills and arrive in this colorful town where you can create your own ceramic piece in a local workshop.
→ Villa de Leyva – Pedaling through a colonial gem
The route from Raquira takes you over gentle hills to Villa de Leyva, one of South America’s most photogenic towns. Cobblestone streets, white architecture and vineyards in the surroundings make this one of the most relaxing and photogenic stages.
→ Barichara – Climbs that are worth every pedal stroke
On the way to Colombia’s most beautiful town, you’ll cross canyons and jungles on a mixed route between pedaling and bus transfer. In Barichara, the view from the high plain toward the Suárez Canyon will take your breath away ¡literally and emotionally!
→ Chicamocha Canyon – An epic descent among giants
Descend one of the world’s deepest canyons, crossing by cable car with your bikes to reach Zapatoca, a hidden paradise for cyclists with technical dirt sections and views that look from another planet.
→ San Vicente de Chucurí – From bicycle to cacao
Ride among tropical crops to reach this hidden gem, where you’ll visit an organic cacao farm and learn to make chocolate from the bean. Rustic stretches between humid jungle and coffee groves.
→ Guatape – Murals, lake and monolith on two wheels
To finish the route, you’ll arrive in Guatape, one of the country’s most Instagrammable towns. Climb the El Peñol monolith if you still have strength or explore its vibrant streets on a city bike. A visually unforgettable finish.
→ Medellín and Cartagena – Urban and Caribbean finale
Put the bike away and explore Medellín and Cartagena on foot. Guided tours reveal the historical layers of both cities, their emerging neighborhoods and their unique energy. Well-deserved rest arrives with the Caribbean Sea breeze.
